24 Books in 2024 Book Review: “It Starts with Us” by Colleen Hoover

At the beginning of the year, I read the first book in this fascinating series, “It Ends with Us.” The story and its characters resonated with me so much that I found myself completely fascinated. As fate would have it, I found out that there was a sequel to the book, and there was no question in my mind that I had to continue on this literary journey.

Full disclosure I am a sucker for romantic comedies, and I was wrapped up in the narrative, unable to tear myself away. Before I knew it, I finished the book in three days. It’s safe to say that I love this series, and I’m happy to know there will be a book three coming out soon. This book might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but sometimes I just want a happy ending without too much drama. Life is hard enough; can I just read something that makes me smile?

Books & Gifts for Mom

“It Starts with Us” continues where “It Ends with Us” left off. The main character, Lily Bloom, meets her childhood sweetheart, Atlas Corrigan, again. Their reunion brings back many feelings and memories, both happy and uncertain, for Lily. But she quickly realizes that, despite no longer being married, Ryle is still very much involved in her life—and Atlas is the one man that Ryle will hate being around, his ex-wife and daughter.

This book gives more insight into Atlas’ past and his abusive mother. I hope we learn more about her in the third installment and why she is the way she is. Everyone has a story, and I’m very curious about hers. As a mother, I can’t understand how and why she treats her children the way she does. Something had to happen to her, and I need to know what it was.

The book shows how Lily and Atlas’ relationship grows, so you can see their journey together. This lovely story captures the feeling of falling in love like in a perfect fairytale, mixing romance and destiny. As the story goes on, we get totally into their love story, feeling all their emotions and the complicated stuff they go through. This portrayal gives readers a look into the twists and turns of their changing relationship in a hopeful tale of redemption and second chances.

If you want an easy fairytale story, I recommend “It Starts with Us.” Until next time, remember to breathe, reflect, and continue on your journey toward a healthier, more mindful life.
